Monaco Masters - Jersey Team travel to Monaco for more gold
Following medal success at the Prince Albert Cup in Monaco in 2016 a team from Jersey is set to return in an effort to win the Masters Cup in 2018.
The team is selected to blend strength and experience within the average-age rules that apply for the Masters Cup.
The team comprises, Will Le Quelenec, Andy Bowman, Mick Trehorel (Cox), Ricky Rouille and Paul Rioda
Ricky Rouille is a veteran of Prince Albert Cup in Monaco
having won gold and silver previously in a different crew, he now has his eye on
the Men’s Quad Masters Cup.
Ricky triumphed at the British National Championships in
2017 winning gold, along-side Women’s Doubles, Rosie Adamson and Stephanie
Egre. It was a tremendous achievement and has created an aperture for more
success with a new team.
Rouille is partnered with Paul Rioda who is new to offshore competitions, plus two members of the 2017 World Championships crew.
Rouille explained…Paul is very experienced having rowed all
the local races and always being one of the top competitors for the Sark to
Jersey Race. He was an obvious partner for the Masters Cup in 2018.
They are joined by younger athletes Will le Quelenec and
Andy Bowman who are using the experience to follow-up their Top 18 success at
the World Championships in 2017.
Will le Quelenec and Andy Bowman longer term plan is towards
the 2018 World Rowing Coastal Championships will take place in Sidney
(Victoria) in Canada - 11-14 October 2018.
Quelenec said…This is a great early season shakedown after
all the winter in the gym and with the Jersey Sports Foundation and really is
the start of our GB and World Rowing Coastal Championships campaign. It is
great to be rowing in a race with a realistic prospect of winning the Men’s
Quad Masters Cup.
